Rockfall Mitigation System Installation
Alpine Solutions completed rock fall mitigation system installation for public safety.
Victoria, BC
Rope Access Installation of Geobrugg Tecco Mesh
A rock cliff in the Victoria area, located in a residential area, threatens pedestrians and residents with rockfall potential. The project required rockfall mitigation system installation of 700 square meters of Geobrugg Tecco Mesh and 6 rock anchors to fully secured the rock wall.
The project took place in a residential area, which means minimizing disruption to residents was extremely important.
Residential Rockfall Mitigation
The work required safe access to the rock cliff, drilling and grouting in a residential area and a tight work space, managing public access, and working closely with the engineering team to ensure the quality installation of the product.
Scope of Rockfall Protection System Installation
The rock fall mitigation system installation work scope included rock scaling and vegetation clearing, debris removal, drilling of 34 holes for wire rope anchors, 6 holes for rock anchors, and 4 holes for up-stand anchors.
Key Challenges in Residential Rockfall Mitigation
- Work in a residential area – Minimizing dust, noise, and disruption to the residents
- Protect the infrastructure in place
- Rock scaling of large rocks without damaging infrastructure
- Managing public access
- Work at height
How Alpine Solutions Addressed Site Challenges
Alpine Solutions utilized its industrial rope access team to perform the work and mitigate the risk of fall from height. To protect the existing infrastructure, we used expansion grout to break down larger boulders, installed rigging points on the larger blocks, and lowered them down with heavy machinery.
To prevent any damage to the asphalt and concrete sidewalk, we’ve used low impact machinery with a heavier foot print to minimize the impact on the ground.
Successful Installation of Rockfall Mitigation System
The rock fall mitigation system was installed within schedule and to the highest quality standards. The impact on the residential area was kept to a minimum and the infrastructures were left intact.
