Project Requirements
Have 2 avalanche technicians performing maintenance on the RAC system, using fall arrest technique. Have a rescue system in place in case of an incident.
Project Description
CN railway is using 2 remote avalanche control (RAC) system on its Northeast section to protect the railway from avalanches. Maintenance must be completed on the RAC system yearly.
Challenges
- Remote location.
- High hazard work location with possibility of fall from height.
- Limited resources.
Solutions
- Use fall arrest technique.
- Perform a strong risk assessment prior to work.
- Fall arrest system and rescue system overview by IRATA Lvl3 technician.
